The “PALIO OF SIENA” Experience
(July/August)

Middle Ages and Renaissance

Let’s spend a full day to admire two masterpieces of the Siena territory: a fine, cute place of perfect proportions which represents the Renaissance philosophy (Pienza) and a fortified town of great importance in the Middle Ages (Montepulciano).

In this area are some of the greatest DOCG wines of Tuscany, Nobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino.

We are about to get to Montalcino: a guided wine tasting by a producer of Brunello is a very pleasant stop before visiting the cute town where there are many chances of shopping (wines, many varieties of honey and much more).

Then we will take a walking tour through the walls of Siena, looking at the special “treasure” preserved in the seat of a “Contrada”.

A taste of Siena

A full day excursion will first bring you to San Gimignano, a medieval town perched upon a hill which offers a breathless view of the underneath valley; a walking tour inside the walls will definitely fascinate you (and offer many chances for shopping!) Will then join a “Farmers’ Lunch” served in the courtyard of a nearby farm.

Then will proceed on to Siena to walk along the narrow streets, admire the many magnificent palaces and buildings and the private courtyards or gardens which opens beyond the walls of this medieval town.

Take a cooking lesson and learn some “tips” from expert chefs how to cook some typical Tuscan dishes. Let's have a full immersion in the wine culture in the most important winery, the Italian Winery institution. Here you will have a guided wine tasting.

Before leaving, take the time for a tour around Siena, visiting some of the most enchanting natural places where Castles or Abbeys are located.

God, King and Lords

Will visit a small, tiny, charming village surrounded by medieval walls in Monteriggioni and the nearby Colle Val d’Elsa.

A full day excursion to Florence will start with a visit to one of the most beautiful Chartreuse monastery in Italy, the Chartreuse of Galluzzo, started in 14th century, enlarged and enriched over the centuries. Afterwards will admire some examples of noble residences of the 14th century in the neighbourhood of Florence: Villa di Castello e Villa La Pietraia.

Greatly appreciated since ancient ages, we propose a day of relax and body care by a Spa and Wellness center nearby Siena: few programs can be chosen according to individual preferences.

After let’s take a full immersion in mysticism: a visit to the amazing complex of S.Galgano Abbey and the impressive gothic church with open roof. On the nearby hill of Monte Siepi is a small, simple church where a sword struck in the rock testifies the supremacy of the God’ call over the men’s power

We invite you to visit the Labyrinth of the powerful Etruscan King Porsenna, built about 5 centuries before Christ, and some of the most famous Etruscan tombs.

All Over Florence

The splendour of Florence dates back to the times when the town was ruled by the Medici family, in the 15th century: so, let’s approach Florence through a visit to some of their villas in Florence’ surroundings and how they got modified during the centuries.

About the city…
well, it’s really a place that deserves to be visited. Our suggestion is a full-day in Florence to visit the main places of interest, walking in downtown over Ponte Vecchio, along the river Arno and besides Piazza Signoria and the Uffizi gallery, to end up in front to one of the symbol of the town: the original David sculpture in the Accademia Museum.

Another pleasant excursion will drive you to Pisa to see Piazza dei Miracoli -which offers a very unique view of the great Cathedral and the world wide famous Leaning Tower (which is again open to public after restoration works)- and the small jewel of Lucca, founded as roman settlement – whose main evidence is the round Piazza del Mercato, an ancient Roman Amphitheatre- developed through the centuries with subsequent circles of walls and ramparts. Walking through the town will be a pleasant way to discover precious buildings of different styles and antique Cafès or delicious cake shops which are spread all over the centre.

The last day is dedicated to visit the magnificent complex of the “Certosa”, a one-off example of religious architecture in our territory -and one of the most beautiful one in Italy- which dates back to 14th century and greatly enriched during the 16th century: visit to the main interesting parts guided by the monks who live in the monastery.

The “PALIO OF SIENA” Experience

From the beginning of the 17th century the horse race which was run through the crowded streets of the old town, moved to the more controlled area of the “Campo” – the ground- such as the Sienese named the central square, the very heart of Siena.

The Palio was set to be preceded by a solemn procession of notables properly dressed up, flag waving and throwing and the rhythmic beat of drums. Such a magnificent scenery is still framing the nowadays event : but please don’t consider the Palio like a commemorative celebration with a fancy-dress procession.

The Palio is the peak of the city life, the “unveiled” Siena which we invite you to join.

Different districts of the town called “contrada” challenge in a wild race which evokes ancient rivalries: the passions arouse and bring to the surface the ties and the images of the past which come again to life twice a year -July 2nd and August 16th .

Let us make you feel the “thrill” of the event through a “full immersion” of two days
